Supporting palliative care programs for patients battling cancer.

Welcome to Rachael's Rocks

I'm Maureen Finan and "Rachael’s Rocks" was inspired by my daughter Rachael Graham who passed away in December 2021 after battling cancer for nearly a year. Throughout the past year I was Rachael’s full-time caregiver. During the year we worked on craft projects at home when she felt up to it. We purchased the supplies to paint rocks, but Rachael was never quite up to doing it as she had lost the use of her right hand following a stroke during her cancer treatment.

After Rachael passed away, I was alone most evenings, and I started painting the rocks we’d once planned to paint together. In time I realized that painting was a way of grieving her loss and at the same time remembering the fun times when we shopped for the supplies. Painting rocks became a meditative, therapeutic practice for me.

Friends who stopped by saw the rocks and I told them to take one, whichever one “spoke” to them, to remember Rachael. People also suggested I sell the rocks exclaiming, “these are gorgeous”, or “so beautiful”. I started to paint rocks with specific people in mind, and send them as gifts, to thank them for all the care and support they’d shown to me and to Rachael throughout her illness and after her passing.

That got me thinking about ways I could use the rocks to raise money and support for palliative care programs.
